an Export Meter Reading

If you’ve recently had solar PV installed at your business, one of your next thoughts will likely be towards exporting excess generation to the grid. To satisfy your tariff application you’ll need to provide an export reading, a seemingly simple request that can often cause confusion due to meter functionality & notation.

Smart meters are designed to automatically send readings to your energy supplier. However, it’s beneficial to know how to manually read your meter, especially if you’re verifying readings or submitting them for specific programs.​

Of course, there are numerous energy meter models available, each with its own method for displaying export readings. Below is a guide for some of the more common meters:​

Secure Liberty 100

  1. Press the ‘9’ key on the keypad.
  2. Look for a screen displaying ‘Export’ or ‘EXP kWh’ followed by a number.
  3. Note the number displayed; this is your export reading.​

Itron EM425-UK

  1. Press the orange button to wake up the display.
  2. Use the bottom blue button to cycle through options until you see ‘Total Registers’.
  3. Select ‘Total Registers’ by pressing the orange button.
  4. Continue scrolling until you see ‘Exp.’; this is your export reading.​

Honeywell Elster AS300P

  1. Press and hold the middle grey button until the main menu appears.
  2. Select ‘General’ by pressing the middle button again.
  3. Scroll using the bottom button to ‘TOU Registers’ and select it.
  4. Navigate to ‘Cum. Exp.’ to view your cumulative export reading.​

Landis+Gyr E470

  1. Press the green ‘A’ button to wake up the display.
  2. Continue pressing ‘A’ until you see ‘Total Active Export’ or a similar message.
  3. The number displayed is your export reading.​

EDMI ES-10A / ES-10B / ES-30B

  1. Press any button to wake up the display.
  2. The screen will automatically cycle through various readings, including the export value.
  3. Alternatively, use the buttons to manually scroll to the export reading screen.​

Honeywell AS302P

  1. Press button ‘A’ to wake up the display and access the ‘General’ menu.
  2. Press button ‘B’ to navigate to the ‘Registers’ menu and select it with button ‘A’.
  3. Within ‘Registers’, select ‘Cumulative’ using button ‘A’.
  4. Press button ‘B’ to scroll to ‘Export’; the displayed number is your export reading.​

Final Tips

  • Don’t worry about any leading zeros or digits after the decimal point.
  • If your meter isn’t listed above, we’d advise performing a quick internet search using your meter’s make and model to find specific instructions.
